The concept: industrializing magic

Most Create packs stay inside technology; CAE takes the opposite bet and melts magic into the production lines. The progression, guided by a chapter-based quest book, interleaves the two worlds: Create machines manufacture ritual components, magic unlocks materials no machine can produce, and the advanced tiers demand hybrid factories — arcane essences on conveyor belts, PneumatiCraft compressed air feeding enchanted altars.

Custom recipes enforce that hybridization: you cannot rush a single progression tree. That is the pack’s flavor — and its difficulty, a notch above mainstream Create packs.

A finished pack — what that changes (and what it does not)

CAE development stopped at version 1.9.3, released in November 2023. In practice: no new content is coming, and a few known minor bugs will stay as they are. In exchange, you play a frozen version documented by years of community feedback, with no risk of an update breaking a world or a server — a genuine advantage for communities wanting a durable base.

Our advice is the same as for other major packs that stayed on older versions: judge the experience, not the version number. CAE’s progression has no modern equivalent to date.

How to install Create: Arcane Engineering, step by step

The pack is distributed on CurseForge; the official app installs Forge 1.18.2 and all ~197 mods automatically.

   Install the CurseForge app

   Download the CurseForge app from curseforge.com and link it to Minecraft Java.

   Find the pack

   Search for “Create: Arcane Engineering” and make sure it is the official pack (over 700,000 downloads, latest version CAE 1.9.3).

   Install

   Click Install: the app fetches Forge 1.18.2 and the full mod list automatically.

   Allocate RAM

   Allocate 5 to 8 GB in the profile settings: the pack is heavier than Astral and the headroom pays off from mid-game onward.

   Launch and follow the chapters

   Create a world and open the quest book: the chapter progression guides you from your first machine to your first ritual. For a server, enter its address with the exact same pack version.

Recommended setup

With close to 200 mods and Create factories running around the clock, CAE appreciates a solid machine: 16 GB of system RAM to allocate 6 to 8, and a recent CPU — Create simulates a lot of mechanics client-side. OptiFine is not recommended with Create; if you stutter, lower render distance and disengage idle contraptions with clutches before looking further.

Playing CAE in multiplayer

With others, the pack’s dual progression becomes a strength: one player pushes tech while another climbs the magic tree, and the hybrid tiers fall much faster. Version 1.9.3’s stability is an asset for servers — no surprise updates, maps that last. Check before joining: map age, the anti-lag policy (always-on Create factories add up) and whether quests are shared per team.
