HCF (Hardcore Factions) is a faction gamemode where death has real consequences: dying gets you a deathban — a temporary ban from the server — and lowers your faction’s DTR (Deaths Til Raidable), which makes your base raidable by anyone once it hits zero. Around that unforgiving rule an entire season unfolds: claiming territory, farming potions and gear, ambushing players on the roads, and faction wars where a single kill can open up a base.
HCF also has its institutions: KOTH (King of the Hill) events, where factions fight for uninterrupted control of a hill to win major loot, and armor classes — bard in full gold to buff teammates, archer in full leather for ranged pressure, rogue in chainmail for gold-sword backstabs. All of it built on 1.7/1.8 combat, inherited from the golden age of competitive Minecraft PVP.
Finding the best HCF servers in 2026
The HCF scene lives map to map, and everything is decided at SOTW (Start of the World) — the season launch where factions stake their claims. A server that pulls a crowd at SOTW will carry its map; a server that opens empty is already dead, so check player counts on our listings around launch day. Then look at deathban lengths (from minutes early in the map to several hours, often reduced for new players), the map kit limits (Protection I or II caps and restricted potions are what keep fights skill-based), and whether KOTHs are scheduled at hours you can actually attend.
Anti-cheat matters even more here than in other modes: a cheater in HCF does not ruin a ten-minute game — he raids your base and deathbans your whole faction for hours. Serious servers publish their bans and screen-share or spectate reports.
Frequently asked questions
› How long does a deathban last?
It depends on the server and the stage of the map: anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. Many servers sell or award extra lives that let you return early, and shorten bans at the start of a map so new players are not punished out of the game.
› What does DTR mean?
Deaths Til Raidable: the number of deaths your faction can absorb before losing protection. Every member death lowers it; it regenerates slowly over time. At zero or below, your claims stop protecting anything — that is when raids happen, so a smart faction retreats and freezes when its DTR runs low.
› How does a KOTH work?
A capture zone activates at an announced time, and a faction has to hold the hill — usually 5 to 15 minutes of accumulated control without being knocked off — to win the loot crate. Since the whole server converges on one point, KOTHs produce the biggest fights of the map.
› What are the bard, archer and rogue classes?
Wearing a full armor set of one material activates a class: the bard (gold) grants speed, strength and regeneration to nearby teammates using consumable items, the archer (leather) gets speed and bonus bow damage, the rogue (chainmail) lands backstabs with a gold sword. A coordinated team mixes diamond fighters with a bard and an archer — that composition game is HCF’s tactical depth.
› What do SOTW and EOTW mean?
Start and End of the World — the beginning and end of a map. SOTW opens the season with a no-PVP grace period so factions can settle in; EOTW closes it, often with a final event where the last faction standing enters the server’s hall of fame. In between: weeks to months of war.
