Cobblemon: The Pokémon Mod & Its Modpacks — Overview and Install Guide

Updated July 28, 2026

Cobblemon is Minecraft’s new-generation Pokémon mod: open source, available on Fabric and NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1 (version 1.7.3 as of early 2026), with an art direction that blends Pokémon into the vanilla style. Catching, battles, breeding, shinies: it is all there, inside normal Minecraft survival where Pokémon add to the adventure instead of replacing it. It appeals to Pokémon fans and SMP players alike who want a collection layer on top of survival.

The base mod is deliberately lean — its modpacks are where it shines. In 2026 three dominate: Cobbleverse (the full Pokémon adventure, with all 1025 species via add-ons), the Cobblemon Official Modpack (lightweight, by the mod’s own team) and Cobblemon Academy, successor to the popular Star Academy, now legacy.

The concept: Pokémon that live inside Minecraft

Cobblemon does not turn Minecraft into a Pokémon game: it settles Pokémon into Minecraft. Creatures spawn by biome, sleep at night, gather in groups; you catch them with Poké Balls crafted from apricorns, train them in turn-based battles, and evolve them. Progression follows survival itself: the more biomes you explore, the fuller your Pokédex.

Its strength is its modernity: very active development, a booming add-on ecosystem (extra Pokémon generations, mega evolutions, interfaces), and natural compatibility with recent mods — decoration, world generation, town building.

The modpacks that matter in 2026

Your choice of pack defines the experience:

  • Cobbleverse (Fabric 1.21.1, updated July 2026): the complete Pokémon adventure — all 1025 species via add-ons, regions inspired by Kanto through Sinnoh, gyms with animated leaders, working Pokémon Centers. The reference pack for reliving the original games’ loop.
  • Cobblemon Official Modpack: the mod team’s own pack — Cobblemon plus a short selection of visual and audio comfort. Light, stable, ideal for a first try or a small server with friends.
  • Cobblemon Academy: successor to Star Academy (now legacy), on 1.21.1 — story-driven progression around an academy, a polished economy, over a hundred builds to explore.

How to install a Cobblemon modpack, step by step

The mod and its packs are distributed on Modrinth and CurseForge. Example with Cobbleverse:

  1. 1

    Pick your launcher

Install the Modrinth app or the CurseForge launcher — both distribute the main Cobblemon packs.

  2. 2

    Search for the pack

Search for « Cobbleverse » (or « Cobblemon Official Modpack » for a lightweight option) and click Install.

  3. 3

    Allocate RAM

Set 4 to 6 GB in the profile options — Cobblemon packs are far lighter than old Pixelmon setups.

  4. 4

    Launch and pick your starter

On first join, choose your starter. Then break apricorns to craft your first Poké Balls.

Playing Cobblemon on a server

Servers are where Cobblemon comes into its own: gyms run by real players, trades between trainers, spawn events. Cobblemon servers are usually full survival worlds — farms, houses, community — where the Pokédex fills up as server life unfolds. Check the exact pack in use (Cobbleverse, official pack or a custom one) and its version: as with any modded pack, the client must match the server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cobblemon or Pixelmon — which should I pick?

Pixelmon is the veteran: more competitive content, established gyms and leagues. Cobblemon is more modern, lighter and better looking, on recent Minecraft versions, with a fast-growing add-on ecosystem. For multiplayer survival with Pokémon, Cobblemon is now the natural choice.

Are all Pokémon available?

The base mod implements several hundred and grows with every update. With add-ons — bundled in Cobbleverse — you reach all 1025 species of the national Pokédex.

Is Cobblemon free and legal?

The mod is free, open source, and only requires Minecraft Java. It is a fan project with no Nintendo affiliation, distributed on Modrinth and CurseForge.

Which pack for a server with friends?

The Cobblemon Official Modpack: light, stable, easy to host. Move to Cobbleverse if your group wants the gyms, the regions and the full Pokédex — just plan for a slightly beefier server.

Fabric or NeoForge for Cobblemon?

The mod is identical on both. The big packs (Cobbleverse in particular) run on Fabric: follow the loader of the pack or server you are targeting rather than choosing in the abstract.
