Create Astral Modpack: Overview, Content & How to Install

The concept: from a barren planet to the stars

Astral structures its progression into chapters guided by an unusually well-written quest book. The early ones teach Create fundamentals — rotation, cogwheels, mechanical presses — then each chapter unlocks an industrial tier: smelting, brass automation, rail networks, fuel production. The pack’s twist is its space setting: the starting surface is poor in certain resources, and leaving the planet is how you reach the materials for the next tiers.

Unlike expert packs, Astral does not gate everything behind mandatory automation: plenty can be crafted by hand early on, and you automate once quantity demands it. That gentle curve makes it the best entry point into modded Create.

How to install Create Astral, step by step

The pack is distributed on CurseForge: the official CurseForge app (Windows, macOS) is the simplest install path and the one the pack’s documentation assumes.

   Install the CurseForge app

   Download the CurseForge app from curseforge.com and install it. On first launch, link it to your Minecraft Java installation.

   Find the pack

   In the Minecraft tab, search for Create Astral and make sure it is the official pack (over 1.4M downloads).

   Install and let it download

   Click Install: the app fetches the right Fabric version and all 186 mods automatically. Allow a few minutes depending on your connection.

   Allocate RAM

   In the app or profile settings, allocate 4 to 6 GB of RAM. Going past 8 GB tends to hurt performance more than it helps.

   Launch and create a world

   Start the profile, create a world (or enter a server address) and open the quest book: it takes you by the hand from the first minute.

Recommended setup

Astral runs well on modest machines for a modded pack: 4 GB of allocated RAM is enough solo, 6 GB keeps things comfortable on a busy server. A recent CPU matters more than the graphics card — Create simulates a lot of mechanics client-side. The pack already ships Sodium and its Fabric optimization companions: do not add OptiFine, it is incompatible.

If you hit stutters late in the progression (large factories, trains), drop render distance to 8-10 chunks before touching anything else.

Playing Astral in multiplayer

Astral is at its best as a team game: quests are shared per group, everyone specializes (smelting, farms, rail) and the rocket becomes a collective build. Before joining a server, check three things: how quest teams are handled (shared versus individual progression), the age of the map — joining a server where everyone is already in space is disheartening — and technical stability, since the pack loads several dimensions.
