A GregTech server is a multiplayer server built around GregTech, which isn’t just another tech mod — it’s a philosophy. Every machine demands precise components, every voltage tier (LV, MV, HV…) unlocks more complex processes, and production chains stretch across dozens of realistic chemical and metallurgical steps. The flagship pack, GregTech: New Horizons (GTNH, 1.7.10), represents several thousand hours of progression; modern packs built on GregTech CEu (like Monifactory) deliver the same rigor in a more approachable form.
Multiplayer changes everything: what would be a lonely odyssey solo becomes a team project, with each player owning a slice of the factory — power, chemistry, circuits. GregTech servers host the most tight-knit, patient communities in all of modded Minecraft.
Choosing a GregTech server for your skill level
Be honest about your experience. GTNH is a very long-haul adventure: look for an established server with a long-lived map (no frequent wipes — losing six months of progression hurts), regular backups and an active staff team. If you’re new to GregTech, a modern CEu pack is a better entry point: the logic is the same, the friction lower. Either way, the server’s Discord is vital — nobody progresses in GregTech without asking questions.
Frequently asked questions
› Does GTNH really take thousands of hours?
Yes, to see the end of the progression (the Ultimate… then the Stargate for the truly dedicated). But nobody plays GTNH just to finish it: every voltage tier is a victory in itself, and many players happily spend years on the same map.
› I’ve never touched GregTech — where do I start?
With a modern pack built on GregTech CEu (Monifactory is the one most recommended to beginners) rather than jumping straight into GTNH. You’ll learn voltage tiers and production chain logic without the harshness of 1.7.10.
› What’s the difference between GregTech 5 and GregTech CEu?
GT5 (and its forks) powers the historic packs like GTNH on 1.7.10. GregTech CEu is the modern rewrite for 1.20+: same principles, nicer interface, better performance. Purists swear by GTNH; pragmatists swear by CEu.
› Why play GregTech on a server rather than solo?
Because the workload gets shared: a team of four specialized players moves five times faster than a lone engineer. And because GregTech communities are gold mines of knowledge — veterans pass down years of optimization.
